Abbotsford council to review drainage issue

The issue of city support for rural upland drainage will be brought before council in coming weeks.

The issue of city support for rural upland drainage will be brought before council in coming weeks.

Currently, Abbotsford collects funds for drainage purposes from the Matsqui and Sumas Prairie dyking and drainage districts, as well as from the urban drainage area.

The rural upland area has never had a drainage feestructure. Approximately 3,400 properties are in that area.  Last week, a city hall letter stated residents could be responsible for maintaining ditches. City officials have since apologized for the letter’s tone.
