A large crane made quick work of erecting the walls of the new Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre this past week.

Work began Wednesday morning as the first walls of the ice arena were erected that day and the remainder of the buildings were erected by week’s end.

The tilt-up concrete walls had been poured into large forms, some of them stacked three on top of each other, over the previous weeks. This type of construction enables rapid assembly of the walls.

The facility – to include a new pool, ice rink, and community facilities – has been under construction since February and is scheduled to be completed and opened by the summer of next year.

The $35.6-million project, located on Fraser Highway just west of Alder Lanes (the former Aldergrove Elementary site), includes a covered outdoor pool, waterslides, a larger tidal and play pool, and a new ice arena.

The project will also include a sauna, a steam room, and a wider tidal pool, due to some federal grants coming through for the project. Those items were planned for future phases of the project but were moved up to be built in the current construction.
