A five-vehicle crash, involving an ambulance on its way to an emergency on Thursday afternoon, resulted in four people being taken to hospital — none with life-threatening injuries.
The chain-reaction collision began as the ambulance, which was travelling westbound on 56 Avenue with its lights and sirens on — but not carrying any patients — slowed or stopped at a red light at the intersection of the Langley Bypass.
As the ambulance entered the intersection, it was struck by a southbound 2003 grey Pontiac Vibe.
The impact of the collision forced the ambulance through the intersection where it struck three eastbound vehicles, which were stopped at the red light.
Two people were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and one was seen and released within several hours, said Langley RCMP Cpl. Patrick Davies.
The two ambulance attendants were taken to Langley Memorial Hospital for observation.
Davies said the crash is still under investigation, and it is unclear whether the driver of the Vibe, who entered the intersection on a green light, was aware of the approaching emergency vehicle.
