Abbotsford Emergency Services responded to two issues involving legal grow-ops on Tuesday.

Over 250 marijuana plants were seized by the Abbotsford Police Department from a Health Canada sanctioned grow-op on Tuesday night, the second time in one day that emergency services were called to issues involving legal grow-ops.

Members of the APD Drug Enforcement Unit and Emergency Response Team were called to a residence in northwest Abbotsford. A warrant had been prepared and APD officers contacted Health Canada on two occasions to determine whether there a permit or licence was in place for the location or person attached to it.

At that time, Health Canada did not confirm whether there was a licence or permit. Police executed the warrant, and a grow-op and a man were located on the property.

A total of 295 marijuana plants were found on site. Police determined that Health Canada had granted a permit for the production of 35 plants and seized the other 260 plants.

Police and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service attended another grow-op incident on Tuesday, after a dangerous fire broke out at the power building for a legal grow-op in west Abbotsford.

The APD released a press release stating that “twice in a single day Abbotsford Emergency Services were deployed to deal with issues that appear to fall ultimately under the broader responsibilities of Health Canada and the proper regulation and inspection of licensed marijuana grow operations.”
