For their last distribution before Christmas, the Sources Food Bank in Langley set up a room with a Santa Claus to hand out toys and treats to families with children.
Manager Bruce Strom said about 600 people lined up that day at the food bank, which is located at 5673 200 Street in a church basement.
Strom said it was the busiest the food bank has been since it started operating in Langley in October of 2014.
"It's the highest number we've seen between Christmas and New Year's," Strom said.
Strom said in 2017, the food bank hopes to secure a permanent location and to expand the number of days it opens.
"Our South Surrey-White Rock food bank is open Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday and we'd like to do the same."
Strom said cash donations at the Langley food bank are down while food donations are up.
Sources Langley Food Bank is an accredited Food Bank with Food Banks BC and Food Banks Canada.
