Electric cars get pass for HOV lanes

No passenger restrictions if vehicle has a sticker showing it qualifies as battery electric, plug-in hybrid or fuel cell powered

Plug-in hybrid and battery-only vehicles can use high-occupancy vehicle lanes with only the driver inside, once they display a B.C. government sticker showing they qualify.

Premier Christy Clark announced the program at the Globe Conference on Sustainability and Innovation in Vancouver Wednesday. The program takes effect immediately and also includes fuel cell vehicles.

Application forms and a list of qualifying vehicles are available here and the list will be updated as new vehicles are available. Existing HOV lane signs will have tags added to them.

The B.C. government added $6.89 million to a subsidy program that provides up to $5,000 towards the purchase of qualifying battery electric, fuel cell and plug-in hybrid.
