VIDEO: Flames engulf vehicle in Langley

The vehicle’s driver suffered burns to his hands and face

An SUV was consumed by fire in the parking lot of Brookswood’s George Preston Recreation Centre on Thursday afternoon.

Flames erupted from the vehicle at about 4:30 p.m., said Langley Township deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins.

The vehicle was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived. While it was brought under control quickly, the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Jenkins said the driver suffered burns to his face and hands. First responders considered calling in an Air Ambulance, but he was eventually taken to hospital by ground ambulance.

The severity of the injuries is unknown, but they are not thought to be life threatening, Jenkins said.

The cause of the blaze is not known exactly.

“From what I gather, it started under the dash, some kind of electrical issue,” Jenkins said.

The husk of the burned out vehicle has been hauled away.

While it burned, the vehicle sent a black plume of smoke into the sky over Brookswood.
