The investigation of a fatal crash involving an RCMP consultant returned to the scene of the accident early Thursday morning (Aug. 22).
Police closed down Highway 10 between 192 Street and Fraser Highway between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. to re-create the conditions that existed on Aug. 7 when a a semi truck struck and killed a 37-year-old pedestrian.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said such re-creations are not routine, but are used "depending on the circumstances" of a crash.
The alleged driver of the truck is an RCMP hired consultant who was working on a fatal crash involving a semi that killed Surrey RCMP Const. Adrian Oliver in November 2012.
Police said it appears the consultant didn't stop to render assistance but kept driving.
At the time, RCMP described the unnamed consultant as an expert civilian witness who has worked with law enforcement and other public safety agencies throughout the region.
The consultant had been working that day on a re-creation of an accident involving the semi that killed Const. Adrian Oliver at the intersection of 64 Avenue and 148 Street.
The officer was speeding through the intersection in an unmarked police car without using sirens.
The semi the consultant was allegedly driving at 3 a.m. on the Langley Bypass was being used to re-create the Oliver crash.
The dark blue semi bobtail was travelling eastbound in the curb lane in the 19500 block of Langley Bypass when it hit the pedestrian.
Both the vehicle and driver were located later that day.
