It will be at least four months before Gregory Barrett is sentenced for his part in the March 28, 2009 attack that killed 24-year-old Kyle Barber of Aldergrove.
Barrett was convicted of manslaughter on Monday, June 13.
The court hearing to decide his punishment has now been set for Nov. 4.
It was the earliest date for the judge, defence and Crown prosecutor to all be available on the same day.
While he waits for his fate to be decided, Barrett will remain free on bail.
Crown counsel Christopher McPherson wanted bail revoked, but defence lawyer Neil Cobb convinced judge Sunni Stromberg-Stein to leave it in place.
Cobb said since the bail conditions were set when his client was facing a murder charge, the conditions were tougher than they would have been for manslaughter.
McPherson has said he will seek 10 years in jail for Barrett, who was convicted of being an accessory to Albert Jacob Jackman, the man who repeatedly stabbed Barber and caused his death from massive blood loss.
Jackman was convicted of first degree murder, an offence that comes with an automatic sentence of life with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.
Barrett and Jackman were convicted of forcing their way into Barber’s home to accuse him of robbing a marijuana grow operation next door.
Jackman repeatedly assaulted Barber while Barrett held his girlfriend in a bear hug grip.
