Cloverdale-Langley City MP John Aldag adopts the “I Want You” pose to encourage young people to apply online for a youth council position.

Visitors to the online application for the new Cloverdale-Langley City Constituency Youth Council are greeted with an image of MP John Aldag pointing at the camera in a pose that resembles the famous “I Want You” poster of Uncle Sam that the U.S. government used to recruit soldiers in 1917.

Aldag is also recruiting, but not for military purposes.

“Are you age 15 - 24?” the web page asks.

“I want to hear from YOU.”

In a press release about the youth council, Aldag said he is looking for between 10 and 20 participants who would be available to meet several times a year with him “to discuss a number of issues that could include climate change, access to employment, LGBTQ issues, peacekeeping, and other topics that matter most to the community.”

The Cloverdale-Langley City Youth Council will accept applications until midnight, Friday, Sept., 30.

Applicants must complete and submit the form, which is available at the MP’s constituency office at 19211 Fraser Highway, Unit 5, his Facebook page at facebook.com/JohnAldagLPC#, or official website at  johnaldagmp.ca/youthcouncil.
