Murray Jones is again running for a seat on Langley Township council.
Jones ran in the 2008 municipal election.
He is the president of Langley Speedway Historical Society and has played a prominent role in gaining more recognition for the speedway site within Campbell Valley Regional Park as a heritage site.
He is also on the board of the Campbell Valley Park Association.
He is a member of Langley Reunification Association, which has been gathering signatures on petitions to Township and City councils, asking that they agree to and pay for a study on whether the two Langleys should become one municipality.
He is an equipment operator with the City of Abbotsford and is president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, local 774. As such, he has been involved in negotiations and discussions with his employer on behalf of his members.
Jones says he does not belong to any political party and is runing as an independent.
Jones said he will be a voice for ordinary citizens on council, who often feel they have no say in matters that directly affect them, especially when they are seeking good value for their tax dollars.
“Think of council as a jury, judging bylaws, amendments or motions. To have fair representation, you need to elect a group of people that truly represent your community in its entirety, not just its elite.”
Jones has lived in both Canada and the United States, and has worked for both large and small businesses. He has also been self-employed and been without owrk, so he can identify with people in all types of economic situations.
