It's been a year since 44-year-old Daniel Patrick McAuley of Langley was killed in a hit-and-run and despite an intense effort to find the person responsible, RCMP have yet to make an arrest.

On Dec. 20, 2015, McAuley, a long-time Save-On Foods employee who adored his dogs and loved music, was walking home around 2:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of 200 Street in a quiet residential area close to where he lived when he was hit.

His body was discovered by a passing motorist.

Weather and visibility conditions were poor at the time.

There is no sidewalk on that stretch of 200 Street, but there are street lights.

One witness said she saw a vehicle turn around and come back to the crash scene, only to leave again.

On the anniversary of his death, Langley RCMP made a renewed appeal for public assistance.

"The lack of closure for the family and accountability to society are motivating factors that continue to drive us to seek the answers everyone needs and deserves" said Supt. Murray Power, the officer in charge of the Langley detachment.

The force said hundreds of hours have been spent scouring surveillance camera footage, interviewing residents nearby and tracking down vehicles matching the description of a possible suspect vehicle.

Surveillance and traffic camera photos were released to the public in the hopes of identifying a suspect vehicle but to date, one has not been identified.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a red Toyota Camry manufactured between 2007 and 2011.

It would likely have had damage to the front passenger side.
