Pedestrians hit by SUV in Harrison Hot Springs

RCMP say alcohol may have been a factor in crash on Esplanade

Several people were hit by a white SUV on Sunday afternoon in Harrison Hot Springs.

RCMP have said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. It occurred in the early afternoon, in the main traffic flow of the village, which had been  packed with people all weekend as the Harrison Festival of the Arts is underway.

Reports are that somewhere between three and five people were hit and injured. One of the injured was a young child.

A Toyota Landcruiser crashed right into the plaza at Esplanade and Hot Springs Road, during an open air concert  just a few meters away. According to witnesses, the SUV first pushed a BMW into a family crossing the road. Witnesses were quick to jump into action to help at the scene, directing traffic, offering water and towels, and comfort.

"It was a great day for acts of kindness," Veronique Castles wrote on this newspaper's Facebook page.

The Observer will be following this story and posting updates on informatio as it becomes available.
