Police seeking suspected arsonist

Passerby witnessed Brookswood house being set on fire

Langley RCMP are currently searching for a suspect who was seen lighting a Brookswood house on fire Tuesday night.

Fortunately no one was injured in the blaze, set in the 4400 block of 208A Street.  Langley Township Fire Department and RCMP investigators have determined through witness accounts that the fire was deliberately set.

Police and Township fire were called just prior to 11 p.m. when the Brookswood home was reported to be in flames.

Officers have learned of a domestic dispute between the home’s father and son which began earlier in the afternoon, and was renewed later that evening.  The father had retired to bed for the night, and the basement tenant was not home at the time.

A passerby witnessed the arsonist as he was lighting the fire and made attempts to thwart his efforts, said Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks. However, the fire had already started. At this point, only a minimal description of the suspect is available — the male was wearing a red top and blue jeans. Police are still looking for the 35-year-old son who is a person of interest in this investigation and was not in the home during the fire.
