Police warn residents to keep eye on strangers

Break-in in Langley City may have involved a suspect who was looking over the neighbourhood.

Langley RCMP are warning of a break and enter suspect after responding to a break-in in the 19900 block of 50A Avenue.

Entry was gained through the front door of the home.  It is believed the suspect may have been interrupted, as some items were dropped on the floor.

The only thing taken was  costume jewelry of little value.

One resident in the area told police a Caucasian male, mid-40s, 5’10,” slim build, short hair and wearing a green jacket,  rang her doorbell at around 3 p.m.  The male asked her if “Mike” was there.

The resident whose home was broken into also had an inquiry at her door for “Michael” a few days earlier.

When he was told he had the wrong residence, he moved along.  This might not be suspicious had the break and enter victim herself not had a scruffy white male attend her residence a couple days prior asking for “Michael”.

Police say it is possible both the “Mike" and "Michael” incidents involved the same individual calling on the houses, to see who was home.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious people in their neighbourhoods to police.

Langley RCMP  Cpl. Holly Marks suggests, “Let’s all look after each other.  Just pay that little bit extra attention when a stranger is in your neighbourhood.  You might just stop the next break and enter.”

The incidents in the 50A Avenue neighbourhood took place in mid-April.
