Something goes bang in the night in Aldergrove

Langley RCMP were unable to determine what made the noise on Thursday night.

Something did go bang in the night in Aldergrove on Thursday, but police don't know what it was.

"One of our members heard the bang. That officer heard it around the area of 272 Street and Fraser Highway," said Langley RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks.

The sound of an explosion took place around 11 p.m., with some Aldergrove residents saying it was so loud it shook their house.

"We had numerous officers out looking, including checking out the military base, but we couldn't determine where the explosion came from," said Marks.

Both the Township fire department and B.C. Ambulance didn't have any calls matching an explosion of any kind or injuries, Marks confirmed.

Many said the bang originated from the 272 St. and 32 Ave. area near Parkside Elementary. Police were there with spotlights checking out the pool and field, but nothing turned up.

A meth lab erupted in fire, destroying the third floor of a home at 22900 block of 40 Avenue on Saturday, but the two don't appear to be related.

A few years ago, there were a number of reported explosions that were heard by firefighters and police, as well as hundreds of Langley residents, who also said their homes shook. Some thought it was a sonic boom caused by an overhead jet, but no jet was reported to be in the area. In the end, police were never able to determine what the noises were.

If anyone has any information about what caused the loud boom call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
