Speed and alcohol are suspected in a serious crash on Langley Bypass early Sunday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m. witnesses told police the offending vehicle, a Chrysler 200, was eastbound on 56 Avenue at a high rate of speed when it drove through a red light and collided with a southbound Toyota Tacoma.
Fortunately, the driver of the Tacoma, a 32 year old Langley man, was uninjured, said Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy.
The driver of the 200 was unconscious and taken to hospital.
Police believe the 19 year old Surrey man driving the 200 was travelling in excess of 120 km/h when he crashed into the Tacoma.
"After the initial impact, the 200 spun, struck a hydro pole and came to a rest a block away from the collision," said Largy.
Investigators believe alcohol was also a contributing factor in the collision and have applied for a warrant to obtain blood samples from the driver.
ICARS assisted with the investigation and the road was closed for nearly seven hours as measurements were taken, said Largy.
The driver of the Chrysler 200 was released from the hospital later that morning.
Multiple witnesses remained at the scene to provide statements however, if there are additional witnesses who did not speak to police, they are asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
