Staff member diagnosed with COVID-19 at Langley Lodge seniors home, Fraser Health confirms

The health authority is at the scene of the long term care home

A staff member at Langley Lodge has been diagnosed with COVID-19, Fraser Health confirmed in a press release Tuesday morning.

Fraser Health is working with staff at the long term care facility (5451 204 St. Langley City) “to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families,” the statement read.

The Fraser Health SWAT team is currently on site at the facility owned by the Langley Care Society.

Fraser Health is preventing staff currently working at Langley Lodge from working at any other facility to prevent further transmission of COVID-19.

The staff member is in self-isolation at home.

There are about 140 residents and 150 staff at Langley Lodge.

Since the diagnosis of the staff member, visitors have been limited to essential visitors only, staff and resident movement within the facility has been restricted, cleaning and infection control has been enhanced, and there is twice-a-day screening of all staff and residents, according to Fraser Health.

Calls to Langley Lodge were directed to Mike Klassen of the B.C. Care Providers Association.

He said that Langley Lodge is a “pillar of the community.”

Although he couldn’t speak about the staff member in question, he said that Langley Lodge has always been a very good facility.

There’s a focus now on dealing with families of those in the facility, Klassen said.
