A 20-year-old man suffered a potentially life-threatening  stab wound to his chest during a confrontation between two groups of people in a Langley park Halloween night.

Langley RCMP said the incident occurred around 11:23 p.m. Monday night (Oct. 31) in the park near the Langley Meadows Community School at 2244 Willoughby Way.

Officers on patrol came across the victim, who was holding his chest and saying he'd been stabbed.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The RCMP said the stabbing apparently took place when the 20-year-old and two other people, one of them a female, got into a confrontation with another group.

Five males, one adult and four youths, were arrested nearby with the aid of a police dog and RCMP helicopter Air 1.

It was the most serious incident reported by police during Halloween night.

The detachment said the number of calls was slightly above average levels, mostly due to a few noisy party complaints.

The investigation into the stabbing continues.
