Abbotsford Police is investigating a conflict between two groups of young men that has spanned the past couple of months and racked up more than 25 incidents of property damage to homes and vehicles.

APD Const. Ian MacDonald said police are uncertain what started the problem, but that it isn't gang- or drug-related.

"Now it's more about the retaliation and what happened the last time," he said, adding that  the APD is concerned that the discord between the South Asian men, ranging in age from 15 to 25 years old, now presents a public safety issue for the city.

The incidents, which began May 11, are predominantly taking place late at night, and it appears that the conflict involves two group of about 20 people each. There have been a small number of actual face-to-face confrontations between members of each group, but the majority of the activity to date has involved damage to homes or vehicles connected in some way to participants in the conflict.

The APD's major crime unit is leading the investigation, and anyone with information should call 604-859-5225, text 222973 (abbypd) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
