A newborn baby seal is being monitored at the Vancouver Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Rescue Centre after being found in Belcarra.

Coquitlam RCMP said they made the discovery during a patrol near Cosy Cove, when a man flagged them down.

The baby seal, now named ‘Fort St. James’ by rescue staff, is only a few days old. The mother was nowhere to be found and had likely abandoned the pup,.

Fort St. James is expected to be a patient at the rescue centre for the next two months, before being released back into the wild.
