A vigil in support of the Muslim community is being held in Abbotsford later today, following the shooting at a mosque in Quebec City on Sunday that left six people dead.

The vigil runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Abbotsford Islamic Centre at 1980 Salton Rd. (off of Marshall Road, across from Abbotsford Dental Clinic).

“We are inviting people to a time of quiet and peaceful sharing. The message needed is to say that the tragic violence in Canada is not Canadian and that all people are welcomed into our community,” states a post on a Facebook page set up to announce the vigil.

The event is open to the entire community, and people are invited to bring flowers, which will later be distributed to new families in Abbotsford.

“Those who wish to pray, or speak briefly, in any language, and from any faith background will be welcomed to do so,” the Facebook post states.

The vigil is being sponsored, in part, by the Abbotsford Interfaith Movement.
