May 16, 1941 - March 22, 2021
It is with sadness and much love that we announce that Edgar (Ed) Johnston Merrell of Langley, BC passed away on March 22, 2021.
He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Kay Merrell and wife Vickie, he is survived by Elaine (mother of his children), and 3 children: Christi (Jim), Lori (Alistair) and John (Genevieve) and 2 granddaughters, Annalise & Megan.
Ed was born on May 16, 1941 and raised in Vancouver where he graduated from West Vancouver High School and then on to UBC, while following in his father's' footsteps becoming Vice President of Perco Sales and Associates.
Ed's fondness for showing Quarter Horses started in the 1970's and he found his way back to the arena 40 years later, showing at the Worlds in 2018. For the last 10 years he enjoyed being a snowbird, and loved spending 6 months of the year in Palm Springs with all his friends at the Ranch. He took up golfing again, joined a bowling team but mostly enjoyed the company and life long friendships (Jack & Jill and all the girls).
He battled with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) for the last 2 1⁄2 years and passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Even through all the chemo treatments and transfusions he did not lose his wicked sense of humor, cracking jokes right up to the end.
At Ed's request, there will be no funeral or service.
The family would like to express a special thanks to all the Dr.'s and nurses at VGH Bone Marrow Day Care Unit and LMH Ambulatory Care Unit.
Ed was cherished by his family and many friends. His legacy lives on in his children and granddaughters and he will me missed dearly and remembered fondly.
