It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Blair (née Holyoak) at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her devoted husband, Ian, at her side.
Iris was born in Langley and grew up on a dairy farm in Glen Valley, where she developed the keen work ethic that stayed with her throughout her life. During her first marriage she farmed in Surrey. Later she took a job in the office of Cel-Com, an electronics company, where she met Ian in 1993. She later trained as a medical office assistant. In 1998 she happily followed her husband Ian (a budding pilot) to the Yukon, where she pursued her own career at the Watson Lake Hospital. During their years at Watson Lake, Iris, Ian and family (including her beloved cats, Samantha and JD) had many adventures. Returning to Langley in 2001, she continued to work in the medical field as office manager for several specialists until her retirement in 2018.
As her illness progressed, Iris encouraged others to live their life with gratitude. She wanted us to appreciate the things that we can do, and not dwell on those we can't.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ian Hollands, her two children, Elizabeth Blair and Cameron Blair (Vicky), beloved grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madden, brother, Keith Holyoak (Hongjing), sisters, Heather Beck (Eric) and Laurel Holyoak (Wade), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Violet Holyoak.
As per Iris's wishes, a family celebration of her life is planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Langley Hospice Society or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
