In Memory of Nora Butcher ~
With sad hearts, we announce the passing of Nora Butcher on April 22 2021.
Nora was born in Halkirk Alberta on June 9 1924 as Leslie Nora Hiles to Alice and George Hiles. The family moved to Victoria in 1943 where she worked in Ray's grocery store.
Her family stayed in a rooming house with members of the Butcher family and met Noel Butcher in 1946 when he returned from overseas duties. Nora and Noel were married in Victoria on May 28 1949 and worked on the "Ranch" farming until 1951 when they decided to move to Edmonton.
They started a family here and had two girls, then moved to Winnipeg in 1965, and to Langley in 1966.
They had a house built in Brookswood area where they lived for 46 years, and enjoyed working together in their vegetable and flower garden. They also liked to travel, taking several trips to Europe and many fishing and camping trips with their trailer.
Nora volunteered for the Ladies Auxiliary for thirty years in the Penny Pinchers Thrift Store and during this time, Nora and Noel also regularly helped to look after their two grandchildren.
Nora passed away peacefully at home in Magnolia Gardens with beloved Noel at her side, on April 22 2021. We will all dearly miss her smile, determination, energy and selfless caring for others.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Noel, daughters, Linda and Sandra, grandchildren Nadine and Derek and great granddaughter Isla.
