December 10, 1930 - August 10, 2021
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nana and Great Nanny, Shirley Sawyer. After a short battle with cancer, Shirley passed in the early hours of August 10th in the company of her children.
She was predeceased by her husband John, son Tommy, brother Denny and sister Leila.
She will be dearly missed by her children; Lenna (Bjorn), Leeanne (Kevin), and Tim, her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Ryan (Theresa), Juliet, Henry, Leo, Ruby, Mya (Rob) Ryan, Tyler, Madilynn (Stephen), Sawyer, Gwen, Jesse (Ayla), Avery, Chris (Anna), Sophia, Anja, Jenna (Gavin), Kingston, Wesley, Sydney (Carlos), Benjamin, Jared (Santana) and Michaela( Cole).
Shirley was born in Leslie Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver at 12 years old. She graduated from Burnaby South going on to Normal School to begin her teaching career. Her first teaching job was in a one room school in Paxton Valley, BC.
From there she went to Salmon Arm where she met the love of her life, John, who taught in the local high school. They married and moved to Langley where mom raised her children and taught elementary school.. She was loved by everyone she met..... the best hostess!!
Everyone was welcomed in her home with hugs and lots of food, right till the end!! Her cards were created with great love and creativity (stickers and pictures were plentiful).
A memorial service will be held August 27th at Newlands Golf and Country Club located 21025 48th Ave., Langley, BC V3A 3M3 from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm.
