Australia not a fair comparison

Editor:

As a Canadian living in Australia for the last four years, clarification is needed on the letter written by Dr. H. Spencer (Aldergrove Star, March 24, "Too many struggle to get by").

The minimum wage in Australia is not $18 per hour but $15 per hour. This amount was only very recently raised from $14.32 per hour.

Seems like a lot of money for unskilled work doesn't it?

It's a fantastic minimum wage but I'd bet most reading this would choke on their pancakes if they knew what the cost of living was down here. I'd even be so bold as to state that those making the new minimum wage of $10.25 in Vancouver will be slightly better off than those making $15 in Darwin.
