The Aldergrove Kodiaks took their eighth straight victory in their first game of the new year, Jan. 2 at Aldergrove Arena.

The Kodiaks scored one goal in each of the first two periods to take a 2-1 win over the visiting North Vancouver Wolf Pack.

The Wolf Pack pulled out all the stops in the final frame and were rewarded with a goal halfway through but it wasn't enough to overcome the Kodiaks' lead.

Scoring for Aldergrove were Roshen Jaswal at 14:20 in the first, assisted by Scott McHaffie and Ryan Veillet, and Ryan Simpson at 5:07 in the second, assisted by Stephen Ryan and captain Daniel Higgs. Scoring for the Wolf Pack was Taylor Tanti, unassisted.

The Kodiaks outshot the Wolf Pack 36-35, and neither team scored on their power plays (two for the Kodiaks and six for the Wolf Pack).

Game stars were Kodiaks keeper Mark Menicucci for first, Wolf Pack's Braden Krogfuoss for second and Kodiaks Ryan Simpson for third.

The Kodiaks currently stand at 37 points after 30 games (18-11-1-0), seven points behind conference leader Abbotsford Pilots. The Kodiaks face the Pilots Friday night in Abbotsford.
