Aldergrove Kodiaks up 2-0 as series shifts to Abbotsford

Deadly power play, stellar goaltending help Aldergrove hold serve on home ice

Ross Baadsvik turned in his second 50-plus save effort in as many games as the Aldergrove Kodiaks have jumped out to a 2-0 series lead.

Baadsvik, who made 52 saves in a game one 2-1 victory, was at it again on Wednesday night, stopping 56 of 60 shots as the Kodiaks defeated the Abbotsford Pilots 6-4 at the Aldergrove Arena in junior B Pacific International Junior Hockey League action.

The series now shifts to Abbotsford's MSA Arena for games three and four on Friday (March 16) and Saturday.

If necessary, game five would be Sunday back at the Aldergrove Arena.

The Kodiaks special teams were lethal in game two, striking for five power play goals in seven chances.

Aldergrove received goals from six different players, while Colton Precourt had four assists and Brandon Potomak had three.

Thomas Hardy, with a goal and three helpers, finished the night with four points.

Spencer McHaffie and Robert Jang put the Kodiaks ahead by a pair after 20 minutes, and after Adam Rossi cut the lead to 2-1, Alex Feighan restored the two-goal advantage. The Pilots would again claw to within a goal on a strike from Kevin Lourens, but Thomas Hardy made it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Scott McHaffie scored the eventual game winner early in the third before Christopher Vinette made things interesting with a pair of goals to pull the Pilots within one.

Matthew Luongo added the insurance goal, the only Aldergrove score to come at even strength.

The Pilots finished 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
