The Aldergrove Minor Hockey Association's Bantam C1 Bruins captured a Bantam Play-off banner last week.

The team took a second place finish (Silver) in the Coquitlam M.H.A. Winter tournament with a 3-2 loss to Vancouver T-birds, who were awarded a penalty shot for the winning goal. They also took a second place finish (Silver) in the Cloverdale M.H.A. Christmas Break tournament.

In addition, they won a first place finish (Gold) in the Salmon Arm M.H.A. Les Sherwood Memorial Tournament.

The team went undefeated on their way to victory, including two stellar back-to-back shut-outs in the semi-final and gold medal game.

Scores as follows:

Bruins vs. N. Okanagan Knights, W 6-1

Bruins vs. Kamloops Saints, W 7-2

Bruins vs. Salmon Arm Bruins, W 4-2

Bruins vs. Kelowna Stars (Semi-Final), W 6-0

Bruins vs. Kamloops All-Blacks (Final), W 4-0

The points leader for the tournament was Daylen Calfa with seven goals and four assists.

In a great side story to this weekend, one of the players came in support of his team with his head clipper-shaved, with his player number and other various designs cut into his hair. As the weekend progressed, Jared “the Barber” Olliffe was open for business, and a long line up formed as many of the boys joined in solidarity by shedding their long locks in support of their team-mates on their way to reaching their ultimate goal of gold.

They also took a first place finish (banner winners) in the P.C.A.H.A. play-off pool of Fraser Valley West. The Bruins had a 4-1-0 record to defeat top-ranked teams, all pooled or finishing significantly higher in the pre-season and regular season.

"It was quite an accomplishment!" said team manager Jeff Hnatiw. "They now move on to try and capture another medal at the end of Spring Break in the Chilliwack Bantam Paul Brenner Memorial Tournament. Good luck, boys!"

The proud group of boys include goalie Miguel Arias, Wyatt Amato (A), Shawn Beanland, Steven Bunt (C), Daylen Calfa (A), Clarke Corsan, Gorv Grewal, Jonah Hnatiw, Brett Hollins (A), Devon James, Brandon Kondolay, Ryan Krasnikoff, Jared Olliffe, Luke Machholz, and Pavan Paul. Head coach is Tim James, assistant coaches are Carlo Calfa, Ron Bunt and Gino Amato.
