Brookswood’s own Louise Forsyth will be back in British Columbia and playing basketball against the top women’s college team.

Forsyth will be playing this Thursday, Nov. 22 to Saturday, Nov. 24, where her school Gonzaga takes part in the NCAA Vancouver Showcase at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

“I’m really excited,” said Forsyth, a second-year student at the Washington State university. “I haven’t been able to play in front of my family and friends in over a year.”

Forsyth was a star with the Brookswood Bobcats and a provincial MVP before heading south to play for Gonzaga, which won the West Coast Conference last season.

The Vancouver Showcase brings some of the top college basketball teams from across the United States to Vancouver during the U.S. Thanksgiving long weekend.

The women’s tournament will include Notre Dame and South Carolina, the past two NCAA National Champions, along with Oregon State, Rutgers, and Gonzaga.

Forsyth expects to see a lot of support from Langley in the crowd when she and her teammates hit the court.

Her close friends and family have already said they’ll attend the games, but Forsyth is also hoping some of the people who supported her development as a player, from coaches to classmates, will be able to make it out for a game.

Although Gonzaga is relatively close to Forsyth’s B.C. home, she’s had few opportunities to get back for a visit. Forsyth even took part in summer school, and between homework, games, and practices, can’t often head home for the weekend.

She only had four days at home around Christmas.

As for the game itself, the Gonzaga players are excited to take on Notre Dame.

“We’re just pumped to be able to play the number one team in the nation,” Forsyth said.

Forsyth is currently studying biology with a minor in environmental science, balancing classwork with basketball.

“It’s hard work but you can do it,” she said.
