Defence leads the way for Langley, North Langley football squads

Four victories for local community football teams

Jared Slater, Ethan Bernardin and Drey Blair each scored rushing touchdowns while quarterback Isaiah Key connected with receiver Luke Chalk for a fourth score.

The end result was a 31-0 victory for the North Langley Kodiaks over the North Delta Longhorns on Sunday in midget football action.

David Wegert was good on all four convert attempts and a field goal.

Defensively, Nolan Speers and Nick Lacroix came up with interceptions, while Mason Block was a force on the defensive line.

And the Langley Stampeders midget football team was also victorious on Sunday, defeating the visiting Victoria Spartans 33-6 on Sunday at McLeod Athletic Park.

It was a well-rounded effort in the victory.

Quarterback Shawn Lal threw for 225 yards with receivers Sheldon Gangloff (95 total receiving yards) and Chavis Spencer (100 yards) each catching a touchdown pass. Spencer also had a 120-yard kick-off return touchdown.

Running back Azuka Okoli ran for 130 yards and one score while Owen Jenkins also found the end zone with a touchdown run.

Defensively, Joshua Fletcher picked off a pair of Victoria passes while Damon Minhas also had an interception. Joe Nickel and Fletcher each also had a quarterback sack.

James Clifford led the defence with six solo tackles, followed by Minhas and Stryker Roloff, who had five apiece, and four each from Fletcher and Harry Sommerville.

On special teams, Colten Dejong did well punting and Kofi Twumasi had several booming kick-offs.

Atom

Jesse Mason Goolst and Braydon Warkentin teamed up to stop a 70-yard run in the fourth quarter and help preserve the North Langley Bears’ 28-0 shut-out victory over the Chilliwack Giants. The atom football teams played Saturday in Chilliwack.

Four different Bears found the end zone with Jackson Brhelle, Sam Sieben, Vaan Stewart and Goolst rushing for one score apiece. Dain Onyanabo added two converts and was also a force along both the offensive and defensive lines.

Peewee

Benjamin Adams had a pick-6 touchdown to help North Langley beat the Chilliwack Red Giants 20-8 on Saturday in Chilliwack.

Rylan Middleton and Evan Hoy had touchdowns for the offence while Bernemann, Lachlan MacInnes and Lucas Kinch were solid along the offensive line.

On defence, Aiden McMurtry, Rowan Engele and Talon Schroeder each came up with several tackles for losses while Lucca Patterson and Schroeder repeatedly sacked the quarterback. Spencer Hazelton, Brody Hunter and Eli Linden were also solid defensively.
