Aldergrove Kodiaks’ #18 Dominik Gabrych and keeper Mark Menicucci defend against the Ridge Meadows Flames in junior B hockey action

The Aldergrove Kodiaks took a win away at Ridge Meadows Flames Friday night to maintain second place in the Harold Brittain conference.

The 4-1 win followed a 2-1 loss at home against the conference-leading Abbotsford Pilots, Nov. 28.

Kodiaks captain Daniel Higgs scored their only goal on the Pilots that night, on a power play late in the third period. Assists came from Kenny Prato and Adam Callegari.

The Pilots scored twice in the first period. The Pilots outshot the Kodiaks 41-29 that night, earning Kodiaks keeper Mark Manicucci the game’s second star for stopping 39 shots.

The Kodiaks were in better form Friday, when they outshot the Flames 29-20 for the 4-1 win.

Kodiaks scorers were Roshen Jaswal in the first period at 15:38 (assists by Daniel Higgs and MacLean Hewitt), Tyson Solotki in the second at 19:20 (assists by Stefan Gonzales and Ryan Veillet), and in the third period a pair by Higgs at 6:57 (assists by Solotki and Stephen Ryan) and at 16:11 on a power play by Scott McHaffie (assists by Gonzales and Spencer McHaffie). Flames’ Paul Piluso scored their only goal, short-handed in the third.

Solotki earned game first star that night, with third star to Gonzales.

The Kodiaks stands at 23 points after 23 games (11-11-1-0), behind the Pilots’ 36 points and ahead of the Flames’ 18 points.

Kodiaks host Mission City Outlaws Dec. 5, Richmond Sockeyes Dec. 12 and Delta Ice Hawks Dec. 19, followed by Christmas break. Away games are Dec. 8 versus North Delta Devils, Dec. 13 versus Mission, and Dec. 15 versus Port Moody Panthers.
