The Aldergrove Kodiaks tasted victory for the first time in nearly two months, snapping an 11-game losing streak.
The Kodiaks doubled the Ridge Meadows Flames 6-3 on Friday night at Planet Ice. And the win moved the junior B hockey team to within five points of the Flames for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League's Harold Brittain Conference. Aldergrove does have two games in hand.
After a scoreless opening period, the Flames struck first with a goal from Christopher Legassic midway through the second.
Aldergrove responded with three goals — Tyson Solotki and Colton Precourt on the power play and Jordan Pughe five-on-five — to take a lead into intermission.
And the Kodiaks did not let up, with Eric McEwan and Mitchell Guiel stretching the lead to 5-1.
Shane Harle and Danny Brandys closed the game to 5-3 with four minutes remaining, before Pughe's second score of the night iced the victory.
Ross Baadsvik made 50 saves as Aldergrove was outshot 53-39.
The Kodiaks are in tough this week as they look to string together consecutive victories for the first time since early November.
The team hosts the Richmond Sockeyes, who are one point back of first place overall in the league, on Wednesday (Jan. 26) at the Aldergrove Arena and then travel to Abbotsford on Friday (Jan. 28) to battle the division-leading PIlots.
