Kodiaks take Steelers in overtime

Aldergrove Kodiaks Kyle Bosko scored the game winner in overtime Oct. 12 against the visiting Grandview Steelers.

Aldergrove Kodiaks' Kyle Bosko scored on a power play in the dying seconds of the first overtime Oct. 12 to defeat the Grandview Steelers 6-5.

It was the third win in a row for the Kodiaks, improving their record to 16 points after 11 games (8-3-0-0).

The Kodiaks were up 4-0 in the first period but the Steelers scored on a power play just before the first period whistle blew.

Scorers for the Kodiaks were Quinncy Leroux (from Jacob De Waal and Eric Callegari), Clayton Schroeder (from Elijah Vilio), Vilio (from Kyle Bosko and Schroeder) and Matt Oliver (from Chase Manderville and Ty Pickering).

The Steelers scored two more in the second to bring them close and one more early in the third period to even it up.

The Kodiaks pulled ahead again midway through the third on a goal by Eric Callegari (assisted by Derian White) but the Steelers evened it up again seconds before the end of the period to take it into overtime.

The Kodiaks started overtime in a power play and ended on another power play as Kyle Bosko (from Elijah Vilio) scored the winning goal at 4:56 of overtime.

The Kodiaks outshot the Steelers 37-32 and scored twice on five power plays, while the Steelers scored on one of seven.

Game first star was Schroeder, with second star going to Oliver and third star to Steeler Braeden Gurney.

The Kodiaks travel to Surrey to play the Knights Thursday, Oct. 13.
