The Aldergrove Kodiaks took the lead early in the opening round of the Harold Brittain playoffs series versus Mission Wednesday night and never looked back.

Kodiak Evan Cusmano scored at the 31 second mark of the game and the team went on to score four more before Mission finally netted the last goal of the game, March 4 at Aldergrove Arena.

Kodiak Brandon Dolby scored his first of two goals of the night in the first period, assisted by Quinncy Leroux and captain Aaron Markin, to put the team up 2-0 at the start of the second.

Kodiak Cameron Davitt scored the only goal of the second period, on a power play, assisted by Spencer McHaffie and Joshua Poitras.

Mission spent most of the third period on penalty kills, resulting in Aldergrove scoring twice more on their power plays. Scoring for the Kodiaks were Spencer McHaffie, assisted by Davitt and Eric Callegari, and Dolby, assisted by Leroux and Markin.

The Outlaws' Ryan Sharma finally scored midway through the period on a beauty of a pass in front of the net, from Brody Dyck and Bakshi Gill, to close the scoring at 5-1 for Aldergrove.

Stars of the night were Dolby, Spencer McHaffie and Leroux.

The teams meet again Thursday night at Aldergrove Arena for game 2, on March 5 at 7:15 p.m. Games 3 and 4 will be at Mission Arena, Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8, with puck drop at 6:45 p.m. both nights. Game 5, if needed will return to Aldergrove Arena, Wednesday, March 11, 7:15 p.m.

Over on the Ton Shaw division, Grandview Steelers pulled off an upset 6-3 win over the North Vancouver Wolf Pack on Tuesday night, March 3. The Wolf Pack was leading 3-0, when the Steelers pulled out all the stops midway through the second period to score six consecutive goals. The teams meet again Saturday night at Harry Jerome Rec Centre for game 2 of their series.
