Langley runner sets course record in Victoria

Langley Mustang Endurance athlete Sarah Inglis broke the women’s course record in winning the 30th Times Colonist 10K in 32 minutes and 24 seconds on Sunday, April 28, shattering the previous course record set by Karolina Jarzynska of Poland in 2011 (33:56).

Inglis also took gold in the BC 10km Championships which was incorporated into the event.

Training partner Lindsay Carson finished fourth in 34:41.

The event, held in Victoria had almost 10,000 race finishers.

Victoria is only the latest record to fall to Inglis, who moved from her native Scotland to B.C. to run for the Trinity Western University Spartans and has remained based in Langley, where she is a teacher on call and runs with the Endurance team that is affiliated with the Langley Mustangs track club.

In March, at the St. Patrick’s Day 5K in Vancouver’s Stanley Park, she set the Canadian all-comers 5K road record winning in 15:39.

In February, she set a new 10,000-metre best of 32:36.89 in San Diego.

Working on that will include her racing the Canadian 10,000-metre championships taking place in Burnaby at the Pacific Distance Carnival on June 13, as well as the British Track and Field trials to try to qualify for the 2019 IAAF Doha World Track and Field Championships.

Mustang Endurance runners opened up their outdoor track seasons at the 38th Annual Ralph Vernacchia Track & Field Meet on Saturday, A[til 27, at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

In the Men’s 1500m invitational race James Lam battled to a 5th place finish (3:59.31) finishing top Mustang. It was a close race with only a few seconds separating the top 8 in the field. Nick Colyn ran 4:00.71 for 8th place. He was followed by Adam Marshall in 10th (4:07.45) and Ron Loewen 12th (4:16.45). The race was won by junior Rhys Kramer of UBC in (3:56.68).

The Women’s 1500m invitational race saw Olympian Jessica Smith take a convincing win (4:27.59). Mustang Endurance athlete Mikela Smart placed 12th in 4:44.68. The Sevek sister’s Christina and Julie competed in the Women’s open 1500m section. Christina placed 6th (5:02.06) and Julie 7th (5:07.81).

Next up for the group with be Portland Twilight track meet on May 2nd and BMO half marathon May 5th.
