With three games to go in the BC Football Conference regular season, Langley Rams head coach Khari Joseph has stepped down.
Joseph informed his players prior to Tuesday night’s practice.
“Partially personal, the other part due to not seeing eye-to-eye with people in the organization,” he said.
Joseph was in his second season as head coach but has been on the Rams coaching staff since 2012, serving under Jeff Alamolhoda, whom he called a friend and mentor.
Alamolhoda — who returned to the junior football team this season as defensive co-ordinator — will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, confirmed Rams president Dana Matheson.
Joseph did say he hopes to return to the team in another capacity, sooner rather than later.
“I just have to figure some stuff out and make sure everything is OK before I come back,” he said.
“KJ has been a valued part of the Langley Rams for some time and it is my understanding he is going to to come back when things clear up and come back in a lesser role with the defence,” Matheson said on Wednesday morning.
“(And the defence) is a position that he knows well.”
Joseph did admit the timing of the coaching change is unfortunate.
The team’s most recent victory was a 27-21 win on Saturday over the Kamloops Broncos, which clinched a post-season berth for the Rams.
“I think the team is in good hands, we are going to keep rolling here,” Joseph said about a Langley squad which has won three straight games following a 1-3 start.
“I don’t think much is going to change. Jeff has a lot of experience, he has done this before.”
Matheson echoed those thoughts.
“Jeff has a ton of experience as head coach — he took this team to two Canadian Bowls,” he said. “They played in two national championships under his tutelage so he understands what it takes to be successful.”
The Rams are back in action on Saturday when they host the 6-1 Westshore Rebels at McLeod Athletic Park. Game time is 4 p.m.
