Aldergrove skating club had a record 17 skaters competing at the Winterskate Competition held at the Sungod Arena, February 5-8. After a few glitches with music the skaters all began skating fabulously and made the club proud.

Madeline Wasmuth came home with a Gold medal in her first time skating up in a new category, the Introductory Interpretive event.

Allison Campbell and Sarah Wildy received the Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, in the Pre-Introductory Interpretive event.

Just missing out on a bronze medal was Rachel Rollke in her first time competing in the Bronze Interpretive event.

In the Star 5 event, Cora-Lee Hagel placed sixth in a large group of 12 skaters.

In Star 4, competing for the first time at this level, Tarra Lomas finished ninth, and in her second time in the event Tia Flello finished close to a bronze medal, finishing fourth.

The Star 3, 2 and 1 categories are events that are skated to a standard of either Merit, Bronze, Silver or Gold.  The skaters receive feedback for their elements and are able to build on this information to then continue onto higher categories.

In Star 3 the results were Katie deGroot – Silver, Sophia Rollke – Bronze, Courtney Watson – Silver; Star 2 Rachel Lagasse – Bronze, Ogechi Anumba – Bronze, Emily Wildy – Silver, Lexus Lomas – Silver; Star 1 Chiemela Anumba – Gold, Katie Wiebe – Silver, Ivy Nordell – Gold.

Congratulations to all the skaters on their hard work and achievements at this competition.

Several of the same skaters will be competing this coming Saturday, February 21 at the Coquitlam Arena for the West Coast Challenge Synchronized Skating Championships.  All five of the club's teams, 59 skaters in all, will be at this competition.
