The month of October closed much like it started for the Langley Rivermen: with trouble finding the back of the net.
The junior A Rivermen scored just two goals in three games as they dropped three games last week: 7-1 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, 4-1 to the Nanaimo Clippers and 2-0 to the Victoria Grizzlies.
The first two games were at the Langley Events Centre before the Rivermen closed the weekend in Victoria.
The trio of defeats leave Langley at the bottom of the Coastal Conference standings with a record of 5-10-0-0 through the season's first quarter.
Langley, which is last in the BCHL, averaging just two goals per game, opened the month of October with back-to-back shutout losses.
Against the Bulldogs, Tyler Hanzlik opened the scoring for Langley with a short-handed goal.
Alberni Valley tied the score before the first period was done and then blew the game open with three goals in eight minutes late in the second on their way to the 7-1 victory.
Yan Kalashnikov led the way for the Bulldogs with three goals and an assist.
The Clippers used strong special teams play en route to their 4-1 victory.
Nanaimo scored twice on the power play and once shorthanded to build a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Sebastian Pare broke the shutout bid before the Clippers added an empty-net goal.
The weekend closed with Victoria goaltender Garrett Rockafellow stopping all 34 shots he faced in a 2-0 win.
Rivermen goalie Michael Barr nearly matched him save-for-save, with the only puck beating him a third-period power play goal from Wade Murphy, which snapped the scoreless deadlock.
Victoria's other goal was into an empty net as Barr finished with 32 saves.
Langley will look to get back on the winning track on Friday (Nov. 4) when they visit the Poirer Sports and Leisure Centre to face the Coquitlam Express.
The Rivermen also host the Grizzlies on Saturday at the LEC.
