The league-leading Richmond Sockeyes skated out of the Aldergrove Arena with a 5-3 victory over the Aldergrove Kodiaks.

The Sockeyes scored three goals with the man advantage in the junior B hockey game on Wednesday, Jan. 7, as they improved to a PJHL-best 36-6-0-2 and 54 points.

Aldergrove fell to 15-11-2-5 and 37 points, one behind the Langley Knights for top spot in the Harold Brittain Conference, although the Kodiaks have a game in hand.

Eric Callegari, Jordan Funk (on a power play) and Brandon Dolby scored for the Kodiaks in the loss while Daniel Oakley had two power play goals for the visitors. Brett Gelz, Matthew Bissett (on a power play) and Tyler Andrews had the other Richmond goals.

The Sockeyes outshot the Kodiaks 36-28. Oakley, Bissett and Funk were the game stars.

The loss was the second straight for Kodiaks. The team is next in action on Saturday, Jan. 10, when they visit the North Vancouver Wolf Pack.

Knights, Kodiaks well represented at PJHL all-star game

Six members of the Langley Knights and four players on the Aldergrove Kodiaks have been selected to play in the PJHL all-star game.

Langley’s Carson Rose, Dylan McCann, Blake Gorrill, Colin Catchpole, Jacob Fricks and Levi De Waal were chosen while Aldergrove’s Quinncy Leroux, Aaron Markin, Jordan Funk and Cameron Davitt also received the nod.

Leroux and Markin are both Langley Minor Hockey Association products while De Waal is from the Aldergrove Minor Hockey Association.

Also taking part in the all-star game will be Knights coach John Craighead, assistant coaches Amar Gill, Gary Mahesh and Paul Whintors, as well as trainer Sarah Cahill.

The junior B all-star game will be played on Monday, Jan. 12, at the Burnaby Winter Club.
