Aldergrove's Senior Boys rugby team showed very well over this past week at the High School Provincials held in Abbotsford.

The team posted three wins and one loss on their way to a fifth place finish in the province.

Game 1 vs Kalamaka was a 23-5 win on May 28 during the school's grad festivities and this win set up game 2 against the number one ranked and eventual provincial champions, Collingwood Cavaliers from North Vancouver, which Aldergrove lost 44-8.

The team reshuffled their lineup and bounced back with an end to end exciting match with Clarence Fulton from Vernon and coming out on top 30-21, setting up an early season rematch with Glen Lyon Norfolk from Victoria.

With Aldergrove losing the first game to GNS in Victoria the Totems had a bit of hunger to show that this loss was not a true reflection of their ability. After the teams exchanged scores through the first half, creating a very exciting game, ACSS led at the half 24-17. The second half belonged to Aldergrove though, as they methodically wore down GNS with punishing runs and solid team play, stretching their lead to 36-20 before Glen Lyon scored at the final whistle to make it 36-25.

The team finsihed the season as Langley District Champions, second in the Fraser Valley and fifth in the province.

Congratulations to Josh Kwiatowski, who was named the Commissioner XV winner from Aldergrove for top performance in the tourney for his team.

"Special thanks to all the supporters who showed up to cheer the team on, it is awesome to see such great community and school spirit. To see so many family members, friends, school staff and especially all the alumni out cheering the team on, was something special," said Brian Hunter.

The boys on the team would also like to thanks their coaches, Scott Brown and Tanner Hunter, for their dedication and expertise in getting the team to the level they did this year.
