Toth sees gold in Team BC's future

Things are going well in Saskatchewan for Aldergrove's Kirsten Toth, now 18, and studying at Notre Dame University.

Her club hockey team, the Hounds, are undefeated in the season and are getting closer and closer to the Esso cup in St. Albert in April.

But Halifax and the Canada Winter Games are fast approaching, and the Team B.C. women's hockey had a preparation camp over the Christmas break in Summerland, at which they played several boys Bantam AAA teams. Toth plays defence.

"We won most, our team has really come together and we are looking very strong," said Toth.

"I'm home on the 16th of February for a three-day pre-games camp in Richmond. We will get on the ice to practice and have our last minute preparation and get everything ready to go, and the team will fly out on the 19th to Halifax. We get there on the 20th, and we play two games the next day.

"We have the very first game against Alberta at 11 a.m. Halifax time, and that same night we have a game at 8 p.m. against Ontario, the defending national champions. The 21st we don’t play, and on the 22nd we play Newfoundland and Labrador. On the 23rd we play Saskatchewan, and depending on how we do, we will play crossover games and the final game will be played on the 26th and will be televised on TSN.

"We have come a long way, and I don’t think we could be any more prepared than we are. B.C. is going to open some eyes this year for sure, as we have not had a very strong team the last couple years. This is our year," asserted Toth.
