Alex Kerfoot scored on a breakaway 2:09 into overtime, sending Canada West through to the gold medal game at the World Junior A Hockey Challenge.

Kerfoot's winner gave Canada West the 2-1 victory over Sweden, which had won both its earlier games — without allowing a single goal — to advance straight to the semifinals.

Canada West will play Canada East in the first all-Canadian battle since 2007.

The game will be played Sunday (Nov. 13) at 5 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.

On the winning goal, which came during four-on-four play, Kerfoot got behind the defence for a partial breakaway and picked up a loose puck, beating goaltender Oscar Dansk with a shot that hit the post and went in.

Aaron Hadley scored in the first period for Canada West while Sweden's Filip Sandberg tied the game with a short-handed goal in the second.

Dansk made 22 saves while Canada West's Sean Maguire countered with 28 saves.

Sweden will play the United States in the bronze medal game on Saturday (Nov. 12) at 7:30 p.m.

The Czech Republic and Russia are in the fifth place game.
