10th edition of Country Car Show returns to Aldergrove school

Helps raise funds for school automotive program

On Sunday, April 28, the 10th annual Country Car Show will return to the front parking lot of Aldergrove Community Secondary School (ACSS) at 26850 29th Ave.

There won’t be quite as much room as last year, explained one of the organizers, Mike McVay, a directors of the Central Fraser Valley Chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada.

“We did lose some of the parking spaces because of the construction going on at the school, so we’re trying to cut back on the vendors,” McVay told the Langley Advance Times.

“We’re trying to get as many cars there as possible. We’re not going to turn anybody away.”

Registration starts at 7 a.m. with dash plaques for the first 250 vehicles. It is open to spectators, for free, from 9 a.m. 3 p.m.

Entry fee is 20$ per vehicle, with $5 going to help buy supplies for the school’s shop program to support young people entering the automotive profession. Admission is free for spectators.

Vehicles from the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum in Cloverdale will be featured.

And, there will still be food trucks,McVay advised.

Last year, after a near-capacity event that saw 240 of 250 available spots on the school parking lot occupied, organizers were thinking about shifting the location to the nearby school playing field, where they could have more room, but McVay said a closer look determined it would not be practical, for several reasons.

“It would be too complicated to get the cars into the playing field because they’d have to remove fences and everything else , and people would have to drive cars around the whole block [to get in],”McVay explained.

“It was all scrapped.”

The event started as a casual once-a-year get-together in the Otter Co-op parking lot a decade ago.
