The Delta Hot Chocolate Fest embodies the spirit of our local business community, showcasing their boundless creativity in crafting delectable chocolate treats and the velvetly hot chocolate we all know and crave.
Their goal is simple: to spread joy, warmth, and sweetness throughout the community with each indulgent sip while benefitting local charities and their initiatives.
Grace Sabatini, owner of Cravings Coffee, aims to continue her winning streak this year, building on her victory in 2023. With unwavering support from her loyal patrons, her chances look promising. Grace’s passion and ingenuity drove her to unveil a new hot chocolate creation for this year, inviting everyone to taste and cast their votes. The mystery surrounding her creation adds to the anticipation, inviting guests to visit on Feb. 19th or later to discover what’s she’s come up with.
Across Tsawwassen, Ladner, and North Delta, participating bakeries and cafes invite chocolate enthusiasts to indulge and vote for their favourite creations during the Delta Hot Chocolate Festival from Feb. 19 to March 23, 2024. This year, the festival partners with Reach Child and Youth Development, donating $1 for every treat or hot chocolate purchased to support children with diverse needs in the community.
For Grace, winning last year with her chai-inspired hot chocolate was a remarkable achievement, but she’s determined to surpass it this year. Despite facing stiff competition from South Delta and Ladner shops, her victory was particularly gratifying as Cravings Coffee was the sole North Delta representative in the festival.
Hot Chocolate Festivals have become a beloved tradition across Canada, providing a delightful opportunity to embrace the winter chill, contribute to community causes, and savour innovative concoctions.
For Grace, taking over Cravings Coffee last September has been an exhilarating journey. With her grandmother by her side, who also works in the store a few days a week, she has found a fulfilling way to connect with the community. Reflecting on her transition from employee to owner, Grace expressed gratitude for the unwavering support and her dedicated staff, who have been instrumental in navigating ownership challenges.
Grace is a second generation North Delta girl. “My parents graduated from North Delta Secondary, and I’ve been a part of Cravings since my youth. Lemon frappe and lemon squares were my go to, back in the day.” she said. Now, she delights in the delicious biscotti offered by “Notti Biscotti,” a South Surrey bakery, and an iconic addition to the coffee shop’s offerings.
With a renewed focus on community engagement, Cravings Coffee has undergone a few interior enhancements, showcasing local art and merchandise while introducing new culinary delights like flatbreads. The authentic atmosphere and personalized service continue to charm customers, making Cravings Coffee a cherished destination for locals and visitors alike.
