Mental health issues in focus here

Langley Mental Health Community Advisory Committee (LCAC) is holding a public information event at the Aldergrove Library, May 7.

Langley Mental Health Community Advisory Committee (LCAC) is holding a public information event at the Aldergrove Library, from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 7.

"This event will consist of an information resources table on mental health services for youth, as well as resource persons and members of our committee on hand to explain these services," said Renee Poley, chairperson of the LCAC.

The upcoming week, May 3 to 9, is Mental Health Awareness Week, with May 7 designated as Mental Awareness for Youth.

LCAC's main goal is to encourage community consultation and participation by hosting two events each year that focus on public awareness and education of mental health

The committee has held 10 public mental health education events since 2009.

A Family Resource Guide that outlines Mental Health and Substance Use Services in Langley was developed by the LCAC in 2011, and updated with the assistance of a Township of Langley grant in 2013. Fraser Health has provided copies of this guide for distribution to the public.
