Mayor Henry Braun honoured 15-year-old Julia Derksen with the city's Community Recognition Award on Monday in honour of the teen's work with The War Amps.
Derksen, who lost a leg in a battle with cancer, "makes a difference wherever she goes."
Derksen has served as a safety ambassador for The War Amps and spoken about overcoming challenges and talked to kids about the importance of spotting dangers. She has also reached out to other children who lost limbs and participated in The War Amps' Operation Legacy.
"Julia might be only 15 years of age, but she is powerful and she is courageous," Braun said.
