It’s not entirely clear where the idea of the Easter Bunny originated.
Most likely, according to the History.com website, it was introduced to America by German immigrants “who brought over their stories of an egg-laying hare” in the 1700s.
Kids would make nests for “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws” to lay its colored eggs, which, over time, evolved into candies and chocolate eggs.
Like the one two-year-old Remy was happily munching, following her visit with the bunny to have pictures taken at Langley’s Willowbrook shopping centre with her older brother Zay, nine, on Saturday, March 30.
When she was first introduced to the bunny before the photo, a delighted Zemy went in for a big hug, while Zay hung back.
”Our son, he is getting a little bit old,” their dad said. “So this is our last chance to get son-and-daughter Easter pictures together, before he’s too cool for that.”
It was the last day of a two-week Hoppy Days celebration at Willowbrook running March 15-30, and wrapping up with an Easter ‘Bonny’ hunt to find a bunny stuffy hidden somewhere in Willowbrook’s common areas for a chance to win a gift card.

Hoppy Days included photos with the Easter Bunny, and bunny yoga sessions with furry friends from Vancouver Rabbit Rescue & Advocacy (VRRA) hopping about while participants worked on their flexibility.
All three yoga sessions, on Saturday, March 23, charged a $15 admission, with all proceeds going to VRRA.
VRRA is a group of volunteers dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of rabbits in Metro Vancouver that provides a safe haven for bunnies while promoting responsible pet guardianship through its education, advocacy, and adoption initiatives.
