The founder and CEO of Tracycakes Bakery Cafe in Abbotsford and Langley has released a new book.

Tracy Dueck’s Reflections from the Lake is a collection of stories and recipes from visits to the family cabin.

Dueck, who opened the first Tracycakes in Fort Langley in 2006 and now operates locations in Murrayville and Abbotsford, first visited the cabin in Canim Lake – owned by her parents-in-law – when she was 17.

“To be honest, I didn’t think much of it back then, but the more I visited, the more it became not just a family vacation spot; it was my haven,” she said.

Canim Lake was where Dueck learned to fish and watched as her own children discovered the joy of casting a line into the clear waters.

As a family, they prepared the fish they caught and enjoyed the bounty around the warmth of a campfire.

The sale of the cabin after the passing of her parents-in-law prompted Dueck to compile and record family memories from over 30 years of visits. The result is a love letter to the place and people she holds dearest.

“My hope is that the book will remind others to reflect on their own treasured memories of the past and to create memories for the future,” she said.

Dueck was born in New Westminster, grew up in the US and now lives in Abbotsford with her husband Ray and their dogs Reverend and Harry.
